Tour de Sock: Stage 4, Arctic Blizzard

Wauw we zitten al weer in stage 4. Dat betekend nog 2 stages te gaan en dan zit deze Tour de Sock er weer op.

Ik kan nu al zeggen dat het me goed bevallen is. Ik heb veel geleerd en veel nieuwe dingen gedaan en geprobeerd.

Maar goed eerst Stage 4. Dit is weer een inbrei/ stranded/ fair isle patroon. De hint die we er dit keer bij kregen was:

Wow we are already in stage 4. That means 2 stagesto go and then this Tour de Sock is over.

I can already say that I liked it. I have learned a lot and have done and tried many new things.

But first Stage 4. This is another infamous / stranded / fair isle pattern. The hint we got this time was:

Tja dan kan je wel een beetje gokken wat voor sok het gaat worden.

Het werd dus een sok met een patroon met veel sterren. Echt super mooi! Maar aangezien ik geen ster hierin ben heb ik me braaf aan alle tips en tricks gehouden. Ik heb het patroon binnenste buiten gebreid zodat de floats lekker los/lang zouden zijn. Helaas heeft het niet mogen helpen. Ik heb hele gave mooie sokken maar ze passen niet. Nou ja dan maar pech. Ik ga ze nog een keer maken in maat M (nu maat S gedaan) en dan hopen dat ze wel passen.

It became a sock with a pattern with many stars. Really super nice! But since I am not a star in this, I kept all tips and tricks. I have knitted the pattern inside out so that the floats would be nice and loose / long. Unfortunately, it was not allowed to help. I have very nice beautiful socks but they do not fit. Well then bad luck. I’m going to make them again in size M (now done size S) and then hope they fit.

Tour de Sock: Stage 3, Bicycle Race

Tijdens mijn vakantie in het mooie Spanje kwam Stage 3 uit. Terwijl ik ternauwernood Stage 2 had gehaald keek ik wel uit naar deze sok. Want dit waren de sokken met kraaltjes! Dat moest toch spectaculair worden!

Nou en dat werd het. Het patroon is de Bicycle Race van Katrine Birkenwasser / Birkenwasser.

Stage 3 came out during my holiday in beautiful Spain. While I had narrowly completed Stage 2, I was looking forward to this sock. Because these were the socks with beads! That had to be spectacular!

d that was it. The pattern is the icycle Race van Katrine Birkenwasser / Birkenwasser.

Het is een schitterend patroon met veel verschillende kabels maar ook met kraaltjes. Nu kwam ik er dus tijdens mijn vakantie achter dat de kraaltjes die ik gekozen hadden te klein waren voor mijn haaknaald… of de haaknaald te groot voor mijn kraaltjes. En ik had ook geen flosdraad bij me…. gelukkig had een lieve vriendin dit wel dus dan maar op deze manier de kralen erin rijgen. Maar dat is een gedoe. Dat gaat langzaam en werkt totaal niet als je lekker door wilt breien.

Resultaat is dus ook dat ik deze stage niet gehaald heb 😦 Helaas! Maar ik ga ze zeker afmaken want ik vind het super mooie en gave sokken!

It is a beautiful pattern with many different cables but also with beads. Now I found out during my vacation that the beads I had chosen were too small for my crochet hook … or the crochet hook too big for my beads. And I also had no floss with me …. luckily a dear friend had this so then in this way the beads in it. But that is a hassle. That goes slowly and does not work at all if you want to continue to knit.

The result is also that I did not make this internship: (  Unfortunately! But I will definitely finish them because I think it’s super nice and cool socks!

 

Tour de Sock: Stage 2, Odensjön Socks

Het is al weer even geleden dat ik geschreven heb maar doordat ik op vakantie was en daar bijna geen internet bereik had (belachelijk 5 sterren camping in Spanje en geen internet!!) maar goed ik kon me even helemaal richten op het breien van deze fantastische sokken!

Het patroon is van Suzanne Sjogren / KnittedKharpern. 

Het patroon is geïnspireerd en vernoemd naar een meer in het nationale park Söderåsens in het zuiden van Zweden. Dit perfect ronde meer was de inspiratie voor deze sokken. Er zijn veel sagen over dit meer en een daarvan is de verwijzing naar het oog van Oden. De sagen zegt ook dat dit meer onpeilbaar diep is of dat het is geschapen door een reus, die boos was op de kerkklokken, werd neergehaald
en een engelen traan het meer creëerde.

It has been a while since I wrote but because I was on vacation and had almost no internet access (ridiculously 5 star campsite in Spain and no internet !!) but well I could focus on knitting this fantastic socks!

The pattern is from Suzanne Sjogren / KnittedKharpern. 

Named for a lake in Söderåsens National Park in southern Sweden. This perfectly round lake was the inspiration for these socks. There are many sagas about this lake from it being named for the eye of Oden the sagas also says that this lake is unfathomably deep or that it was created when a giant, who was angry at church bells, was struck down
and an angel’s tear created the lake.

Het kostte me wel even wat tijd om in dit patroon te komen daar het een patroon is met veel kabels en ik geen kabelnaald bij me had.

Dus heb ik mezelf geleerd te kabelen zonder kabelnaald. Dat was soms een beetje priegelen maar al met al lukte het aardig.

De sokken waren op tijd af en ik heb er nog 1 punt voor gescoord.

It took me some time to get into this pattern as it is a pattern with lots of cables and I did not have a cable needle with me. So I learned to cable without cable needle. That was sometimes a little fiddle but all in all it worked out nicely. The socks were finished in time and I scored 1 point for it.

Ik ben dus weer mijn wol voorraad ingedoken om eens goed te kijken naar welke wol we nu weer gaan gebruiken.. Best leuk want ik heb heel veel sokkenwol (kwam ik dus achter) en in best uiteenlopende kleurstellingen.

So I went into my wool stash again to take a good look at what wool we are going to use. Nice because I have a lot of sock wool (aparrantly) and in quite different colors.

Tour de Sock: Stage 1, Plan A

Afgelopen zaterdag 15:00 Nederlandse tijd (3 PM CEST) kwam het eerste patroon van de Tour de Sock Stage 1 uit. Het bleek Plan A by Adrienne Fong. Dus in de startblokken en breien maar!!!!

Last Saturday 15:00 Dutch time (3 PM CEST) the first pattern of the Tour de Sock Stage 1 came out. It turned out to be Plan A  by Adrienne Fong. So in the starting blocks and knitting!!!!

Een op het eerste gezicht ingewikkelde sok met allemaal Ajour.  Ik heb nog nooit Ajour gebreid dus dat leek mij een uitdaging. En ook de hiel leek mij niet de makkelijkste omdat ik of een achterafhiel doe of iets anders gemakkelijks :).

An at first sight complicated sock with all Ajour. I have never knitted Ajour so that seemed like a challenge to me. And also the heel did not seem the easiest because I knit an afterthoughtheel or do something else easy :).

Vol goede moed begon ik aan mijn project met een fantastische wol gekocht bij Wollyhood in de If I want exposure, I will get my tits out Collectie. Ik was direct verkocht door het verhaal achter de wol (zie hier) en de fantastische kleuren. Want het thema was Go Nuts!

In good spirits I started my project with a fantastic wool bought at Wollyhood in the ‘If I because I want to get my tits out Collection’. I was sold by the story behind the wool (see here) and the fantastic colors. Because the theme was Go Nuts!

Terug naar het patroon. Het begon met een Lavtian Twist Edge (weer iets nieuws 🙂 ). Het effect van deze start is een soort rolboordje omdat je de naald steeds weer draait tijdens het breien, het geeft een heel grappig effect aan de hele boord. Daarna het Ajour patroon wat alles mee viel (wel veel averechtse steken waar ik niet van hou) en toen de hiel.

Back to the pattern. It started with a Lavtian Twist Edge (again something new :)). The effect of this start is a kind of rolled collar because you turn the needle again and again during knitting, it gives a very funny effect to the whole board. Then the Ajour pattern which was everything (also many back stitches that I do not like) and then the heel.

Wat heb ik een haat/liefde verhouding gehad met deze sok en vooral met de hiel. Er wordt een double gusset heel gebruikt. Dit is helemaal nieuw voor mij want ook een gewone gusset heel heb ik volgens mij nog nooit gedaan. Maar uiteindelijk is hij gelukt en ben ik echt super blij met deze sokken! En wat vind ik ze super! Ik was bang dat ze wat te groot zouden worden met de vereiste aantal herhalingen maar ik heb size Small gemaakt en op naald 2,5 gebreid.

I had a hatred / love relationship with this sock and especially with the heel. A double gusset is used very often. This is completely new to me because I have never done a normal gusset. But in the end he succeeded and I’m really happy with these socks! And what I think is super! I was afraid that they would be too big with the required number of repetitions but I made size Small and knitted on needle 2.5.

En eerlijk is eerlijk.. ik heb nog ruim 50 gram van mijn 100 gram wol over. Dus misschien nog een paar hiervan of elders in de TDS? Misschien wel sokken voor de kids of zal ik toch eens aan een Scrappy deken beginnen?

And to be honest … I still have more than 50 grams of my 100 grams of wool left. So maybe a few of these or elsewhere in the TDS? Maybe socks for the kids or will I start a Scrappy blanket?

Ik ben op plek 370 terecht gekomen en heb voor de groep Dutch Sokkies toch nog 3 punten weten te scoren!

I ended up at spot 370 and I managed to score 3 points for the Dutch Sokkies group!

Tour de Sock: warm-up sock Miriam FO

In een eerder bericht schreef ik al over de Tour de Sock, een race over ongeveer 3 maanden waarin je sokken breit van diverse ontwerpers.

Ook schreef ik over het twijfelen of ik zou racen of zou supporten. Ik heb gekozen om te gaan racen! Zo spannend!!!

In a previous post I wrote about the Tour de Sock, a race about 3 months in which you knit socks by various designers.

I also wrote about doubting whether I would race or support. I have chosen to race! So exciting!!!

De reden om toch te gaan racen is gevallen omdat ik de warm-up sokken binnen 2 weken (alleen s avonds 2 uurtjes) af gebreid heb.

The reason to go racing has fallen because I have the warm-up socks within 2 weeks (only 2 hours in the evening) have knitted.

Ben er echt super blij en trots op omdat dit de eerste keer stranded knitting was.

Op instagram zie je steeds meer plaatjes met de hashtag #placesyoucanknit. Nu ben ik daar ook wel nieuwsgierig naar.. je hebt natuurlijk de plaatsen waar iedereen breit en haakt: het strand, het terras, de pub, thuis, in de speeltuin. Maar zo ben ik heel benieuwd naar plaatsen die niet zo voor de hand liggen..

On instagram you see more and more pictures with the hashtag #placesyoucanknit. Now I am also curious about it .. of course you have the places where everyone knits and crochet: the beach, the terrace, the pub, at home, in the playground. But I am very curious about places that are not so obvious.

Zo brei ik altijd op mijn werk. Is dat gek.. voor sommige wel. Ik begin pas om 9 uur maar ben meestal al veel vroeger. Dus dan heb ik een half uurtje extra breitijd. Maar minimaal 1x in de week hebben wij ook een presentatie van minimaal een half uur waarbij we aanwezig moeten zijn. Ook dan brei ik tussen de collega’s tijdens de presentatie. Het is fijn om bezig te zijn maar ik kan me dan ook beter concentreren op de presentatie.

That is how I always knit at my work. Is that crazy .. for some. I start at 9 o’clock but am usually much earlier. So I have a half hour extra knitting time. But at least once a week we also have a presentation of at least half an hour where we have to be present. Even then I knit between colleagues during the presentation. It’s nice to be busy but I can concentrate better on the presentation.
